Opener & Door Model Number Finder in Detroit, MI
Where to find the model and serial number on garage door openers and doors, and how to read them.
Where to find model and serial numbers
LiftMaster / Chamberlain
Where: On a label on the side or back of the motor unit, sometimes under the light cover.
How to read it: The learn button's color (on the back or side of the motor unit) tells you which remotes are compatible.
Craftsman
Where: On a label on the motor unit. Model numbers starting with 139 were built by Chamberlain.
How to read it: The digits after the 139 prefix often match a similar Chamberlain or LiftMaster model.
Genie / Overhead Door
Where: On a label on the side of the powerhead.
How to read it: The label lists the model and serial number, and the manufacture date is often coded in the serial number.
Linear, Marantec, Sommer, Skylink
Where: On a label on the motor unit or the rail near the motor.
How to read it: Write down the full model number and a photo of the label. It's the fastest way to match parts and remotes.
Garage door (any brand)
Where: Look for a sticker on the inside edge of a section (the end stile) or on the back of a panel. Many doors also have a spring warning label with the manufacturer's name.
How to read it: The model and design name let us match replacement panels. Without a label, panel width, rib pattern and color help identify it.
Torsion springs
Where: Springs aren't labeled with a model. They're sized by wire gauge, inside diameter and length.
How to read it: Many springs have a painted color code at the end showing the wire size. A technician measures and weighs the door to size new springs.
Have the model number handy when you call. It lets us bring the right remotes, boards and panels.
